The 26th Autumn Leaf

A photographic journal of my 26th year

Lucy Rip

“You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it.” These words by Robin Williams are the inspiration for this blog. Since I found that quote I have been on a quest to find the ridiculous madness in life - the kind that makes you laugh long and hard at its absurdity. I've decided to share my gems of discovery here. A candle loses nothing by lighting other candles and I suspect madness works in much the same way.

A bit about me... I'm a twenty something, living in South Africa. In my spare time I embark on ambitious house decorating projects, bake cookies with my Russel Hobbs cookie maker and hack my way around the occasional golf course. On a more serious note - I write for a digimag called illumin8. Visit www.illumin8.co.za for details or email "subscribe" to illumin8ezine@gmail.com. Its FREE!

I had a modest sized suitcase that I was planning on taking to the UK. I
had just finished squeezing it shut when I noticed my hiking boots sitting
innocuously on the floor. There was just no way they would fit in so I had
to upgrade the size of my suitcase. I was mocked relentlessly by my family
over its size for the whole trip!

The pièce de résistance of the 'Box of 18', was 'The Book of Yesterdays'.
It's a scrapbook album of our family, all our trips, and finally photos of
the two of us (as in Em and I). This photo shows some of the material I
used for it. Even if I do say so myself, it was one of my best works and
like an idiot I didn't take a photo of it!

My cousin Emily, who lives in the UK, is almost like the sister I never
had. For her 18th birthday I made her a box of 18 things that unite us
across the sea. This is the planning stage!

Was a fabulous fun evening, but it all ended on a bit of low after Uruguay
unmercifully thrashed Bafana Bafana. We fitted around 25 people into our
little lounge. It's a good thing it was freezing, because it certainly was
cosy!
